Note:
These are the absolute minimum requirements to use the operating system and be able to run the installer.
Applications, options, games, etc. may need better specifications. Modern browsers alone often require around 2 GB of RAM to run smoothly.
(1) to be able to run online installs 4 GB or more are recommended.
The Calamares installer guides you through the first steps of installing the system with the option for an offline KDE Plasma installation or an online installation with plenty of choices…
The online installation allows you to choose Xfce, Plasma, Gnome, Mate, Cinnamon, Budgie, LxQt, LxDe, and i3-wm, but there’s more…
We also have the Window managers Sway, Qtile, BSPWM, Openbox, and Worm all ready to use with a selection of pre-settings, ready to make your jumpstart. These WMs aren’t available through the ISO but can be manually installed. Just go to our GitHub page for more info…
No matter which method, DE or WM you choose, they all have one thing in common, a basic and almost bare-boned installation with a modest but powerful selection of (terminal-operated) apps and packages to start your deep dive into an Arch-based system. To highlight some of those…
Firefox | A powerful free and open-source web browser |
Pacman | A terminal-operated package manager for the Arch repositories |
Yay | A terminal-operated AUR helper that installs packages from the Arch User Repository with ease |
FirewallD | A secure basic firewall using the default public zone running by default |
Pipewire | A new low-level multimedia framework. It aims to offer capture and playback for both audio and video with minimal latency and support for PulseAudio, JACK, ALSA and GStreamer-based applications. |
Nvidia installer | A terminal-operated app that lets you easily install the right Nvidia driver and/or hybrid set-up required for your machine |
Dracut | A highly modular tool for generating initramfs images, which easily can be manually converted to mkinitcpio, if needed |
Our Welcome app will guide you to the information needed for your first steps into the system and also provide you with some handy tools you will be able to use even beyond your initial setup…
